Licensing

Yep! Type Foundry
End User License Agreement
Version 1.0

TL;DR

Our licensing is radically simple: buy once and use forever. This means you purchase the commercial license that suits your company at the moment and you’re allowed to use the font in any permitted way. You don’t need to upgrade your license even if your company grows.

  1. Startup, Up to 5 employees, $10 per font style
  2. Middle Company, Up to 100 employees, $60 per font style
  3. Big Company, Up to 1000 employees, $400 per font style
  4. Huge Company, Over 1000 employees, $10,000 per font style

Additionally, there is a Trial license available for $1 per font style, which allows for non-commercial use and creating designs for clients.

That’s it. We’ve eliminated traditional limitations such as the number of digital devices or webpage traffic, and we’ve done away with separate licenses for desktop, web, apps, etc.

What does “buy once” mean again?

Imagine you and your friend start a company in a basement and purchase the Startup license for Innovator Grotesk today. If tomorrow your company grows to the size of Google (yes, overnight—we believe in you!), you won’t need to upgrade your license to the Huge Company tier.

However, if tomorrow you decide to buy another font that you haven’t previously purchased, you should select the Huge Company tier because, well, you’re a huge company now.

Commercial and non-commercial licenses

Let’s play fair: if you benefit from your activity in any way, it’s a business. Please purchase a commercial license.

If you don’t profit from your product, feel free to use the trial license.

I make designs for clients. Which license should I buy?

The Trial license allows solo designers and agencies to use the fonts for client projects.

Your clients will need their own commercial license. Inform your clients that they must purchase the license, or you can buy it on their behalf and include the cost in your service bill. In that case, you’ll need to buy a separate commercial license for each client, depending on the client’s company size.

To use the fonts for your own or your agency’s business purposes, such as brand identity or a website that sells your services, you must purchase the appropriate commercial license.

If you are an in-house product designer working at a product company, your company needs an appropriate commercial license.

Why is the trial license paid?

Firstly, the Trial license allows for non-commercial and personal use, whereas traditional trials are typically limited to evaluation purposes only.

Secondly, the Yep! Type Foundry trial fonts are functionally equivalent to those under commercial licenses. We believe the traditional approach of limiting trial fonts to a basic Latin character set is unfair to non-English speakers, as it prevents them from testing how accents and kerning work in their languages.

Thirdly, we believe that all work deserves to be compensated.

At one dollar, it’s still very affordable—mostly a symbolic price. Think of it as buying us a coffee.

What can I do with the fonts?

You can use the fonts for nearly any design task. Outline letters and modify the resulting vector to create a logo. Craft letters from wood or metal for your coffee shop signage. Print a book. Use them for branding, packaging, and wayfinding. Employ them in your social media, in images and videos. And of course, use them for user interface design—this is their primary purpose.

What can’t I do with the fonts?

You cannot use any part of the fonts design, such as vector shapes, to create new fonts.

The fonts must not be used for anything related to religion, politics, or military organizations.

The fonts cannot be used for deceptive activities, such as scam websites.

You are not allowed to distribute (share, rent, lend, or sell) the fonts. This includes accidental distribution—e.g., ensure you don’t upload the fonts to GitHub in a way that makes them available to everyone.

Creative software embedding

You are not permitted to embed the fonts in software used for creating or editing new content, such as text editors, publishing platforms, website builders, or design and video apps. Contact the Foundry to obtain a special license.

Legal terms

As far as the law allows, the font comes as is, without any warranty or condition, and no Yep! Type Foundry will not be liable to anyone for any damages related to the font or this license, under any kind of legal claim.

This license does not grant you ownership of any part of the fonts. It only gives non-exclusive permission to use in a specific manner.

Use of the fonts is not limited geographically.

The license enters into force after the customer’s payment goes through.
